Henley out and back

Canoe and Kayak hire Henley – The Henley Adventure

We provide canoe and kayak hire Henley and this is one of our most popular trips as you don’t need to worry about getting back from your finish location to your car. It is great for small children as well as adults.

Route description

This is a great trip for anyone who wants to explore the river from Henley up or downstream and back.

First you will paddle upstream and through Marsh Lock heading towards Shiplake and Wargrave along the main part of the river, past Paul Daniels’ house.

Here the St George and Dragon pub awaits thirsty and hungry paddlers.

On the return, duck down under the tiny bridge and discover the Hennerton Backwater. Kingfishers, herons and other wildlife can be spotted in this little known back water.

If you return to Henley early paddle under Henley Bridge and see the regatta course before heading back upstream where you can treat yourselves to a well earned ice cream!

Further options

You can also paddle downstream along the regatta course and past temple island and through Hambledon lock.

Be sure to leave enough time for the upstream paddle which some times gets quite windy!

*This downstream route is less suitable in our opinion for small children

Canoe and Kayak Hire Henley

Distance:  miles.
Time: This will take fast groups a half day and slower groups who might wish to stop for an extended refreshment break or lunch, a full day paddling.
Locks: 1 (twice)

Getting through the Locks

You can either paddle through the locks or get out and carry your boats around. We would suggest that you paddle through the locks when the lock keeper is on duty and portage if the lock is unmanned.

When you are carrying your boats be sure to lift carefully and try not to scrape the bottoms of the boats along the ground if you can help it!
