Kayaking the length of the Thames
Looking for a Covid-19 friendly few days away from the house or office? Unable to get away abroad for a holiday?
Kayaking the length of the Thames could be the perfect adventure for you and your group.
We can hire you a canoe or kayak for your expedition, along with BA’s, paddles, barrels and safety brief and let you enjoy your paddle!
Prices are £45 per person per day, children between 6 and 13 are half price.
The upper Thames – a part not many people get to see
Planning your route
From Lechlade (the uppermost navigable part of the river Thames) to Teddington (just before you get to central London) it is 137 miles. In the height of summer, it can be better to start in Cricklade if the river levels are low.
We would highly recommend this website Paddle Points to use to plan your route.
Some groups can manage this in 6 days, however many people feel it’s better over 7 or 8 to make it more managable / relaxed.
Days range from around 10 miles to 15/20 depending on how experienced or fit you are and the type of boat you are using. If you are a novice, we would recommend 10 miles a day, this is enough for most, especially as you have to take into consideration the low flow on the Thames along with the locks that need to be got around every few miles.
The middle Thames – tranquil and unspoilt
With Covid-19, accommodation on the river Thames is not as easy at this time. We would highly recommend getting in touch with the campsites/BnB’s that you are thinking of first before getting in touch with us. Once you have your route planned, get in touch regarding boat hire.
