Kayak Hire and Canoe Hire Mapledurham
Canoe Hire Mapledurham. Mapledurham is a small village is on the north bank of the River Thames about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) northwest of Reading. Mapledurham Lock is on the opposite bank of the river, by the Berkshire village of Purley-on-Thames. Although the weir stretches across the river between the two villages, no access is possible across it and, in the absence of a boat, journeys between the two villages require a lengthy detour via Caversham or Whitchurch-on-Thames.
Camping in Mapledurham
One of the reasons we use Mapledurham as a launch point is due to the camping facilities available to paddlers. This makes it a great stop-over location on longer trips. Camping at Mapledurham is at the Mapledurham estate itself, a stunning historic building and grounds. Advanced booking is required.
Launch and Landing Points
The access lane to the village becomes the main street and terminates on the bank of the River Thames, and it is very close to here that we launch and land the boats.
Don’t forget we also have the capability to provide canoe or kayak hire from any of our other landing points on the River Thames.
Getting through the Locks
You can either paddle through the locks or get out and carry your boats around. We would suggest that you paddle through the locks when the lock keeper is on duty and portage if the lock is unmanned.
When you are carrying your boats be sure to lift carefully and try not to scrape the bottoms of the boats along the ground if you can help it!
We are unbeatable on price. Check out our up to date pricing structure here.
