Preston-on-Wye to Hereford

    Preston on Wye to Hereford

    Preston-on-Wye to Hereford Route Description

This route is by far one of the most tranquil sections of the River Wye, nestled deep within the heart of the Wye Valley. Even the river itself seems to relax on it’s journey between Preston-on-Wye to Hereford. Along the way there is much to take in from wildlife to stunning views and dramatic landscape where the river has cut it’s path over the millennia. Please note there are no facilities at all before arriving in Hereford. Groups are asked to take BBQ’s, picnics and pictures but to only leave footprints.

At the halfway point you’ll paddle past the National Trust’s Weir Gardens on the left riverbank. A few miles on you’ll pass Brainton Spring before the straight mile leading into Hereford and the end of this section at Hereford Rowing Club. For those finishing or stopping over in Hereford you can use the rowing club steps to access the campsite which is to the left of the clubhouse.

    Hereford City Information

From Hereford rowing club campsite, it’s just a short walk into the city centre with easy access to all the bars and pubs. If you are after the best curry and pint in town, then we recommend heading over to the Barrels pub, owned by Wye Valley Breweries, before going into the Jalsagor to eat. There are lots of other places to eat and drink as well to satisfy any cravings hungry people that have paddled all day might have. For breakfast we recommend heading over to Diego’s cafe in Bridge Street for a full English.

    Launch and Landing Points

The landing point in Hereford is on the right hand bank underneath the A49 bridge. Short term parking is available in Asda’s carpark at the bottom corner closest to the river. There is good access to get on and off the river and long stay parking can be found next to the old bridge on Wye Street.
