Sonning to Henley

Sonning to Henley

We provide canoe hire from Sonning to Henley (6 miles, a light day in a canoe or kayak), amongst many other routes on the River Thames. See the Thames at its best on this stretch of the river.

Sonning to Henley route description

This is especially suitable for families with children and light paddlers who are looking for a relaxed adventure. Make a few stops on the way and take in the rural scenery and explore the islands on the Sonning to Shiplake stretch.

There are great places to picnic and paddle, or book for lunch at the St George and Dragon in Wargrave.

The Hennerton Backwater is a must for a feeling of true wilderness and adventure. The slow running paradise backwater is a haven for wildlife including kingfishers and herons and will bring you out a short stretch above your final lock at Henley. If you arrive early in Henley you can carry on under the bridge and take a look at the Regatta Course before returning upstream to the meeting point.

Getting through the Locks

You can either paddle through the locks or get out and carry your boats around. We would suggest that you paddle through the locks when the lock keeper is on duty and portage if the lock is unmanned.

When you are carrying your boats be sure to lift carefully and try not to scrape the bottoms of the boats along the ground if you can help it!

Pricing

We are unbeatable on price and transport is included with us, which many other companies add on as an extra! Check out our up to date pricing structure here.
